Anchorage is no stranger to artistic ventures. In addition to The Anchorage Museum or History and Art, mentioned above, Anchorage plays host to a plethora so performing arts venues at the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts. Possesing three performing areas: The Evangiline Atwood Concert Hall, The Discovery Theater, and The Sydney Larence Theater, the venue can hold up to 300 patrons. Each theater hosts musical, theatrical, and film presentations, including Broadway musicals, symphonies, and ballets. In 2000, nearly 245,000 people visited 678 public performances. In addition, The Center is often utilzied for weddings, banquets, and lectures. Seven resident companies occupy The Center. These compaines span the artictic genres and includes The Alskan Junior Theater, which strive sto enetraian the youth of Alaska with quailty shows.
